Pittsburgh– The Point Park Men’s Basketball team will be kicking off their season this Friday night at the Daemen Tournament against #25 Siena Heights at 5:30. This season the Pioneers will be under the direction of Bob Rager who is in his 22nd year as PPU head basketball coach. Rager is just five wins away from win number 300 and could possibly reach that mark by semesters end. Point Park is returning only four starters from last year’s season ending roster. However the Pioneers started 11 different players at one point or another in the season. The Pioneers are also adding new players that look to be in the starting lineup this Friday evening. Names to be familiar with are Robbie Heatherington, who is TJ’s brother from Serra Catholic HS, Kris Douse a transfer from Delaware State and Nebraska, Jimmy Sherwood a transfer from Duquesne. Another new face that will be looking to get playing time is freshman Josh Pohlot from Belle Vernon HS. The Pioneers are not all new, however. Key returning players like TJ Heatherington, Dante Anglin, Josh Trocchio, and Devon Alexander look to contribute on what could possibly by a very high scoring team. Coverage can be heard live right here on 670 AM WPPJ and also on the Pioneers flagship the MSA Sports Network at www.msasports.net. Last year the broadcast crew led by Josh Frketic won the Best Play-By-Play award of 2010 by the IBS. Doing color for the Men’s side is Aaron Cooney, however Kevin Calhoun will be alongside Frketic this weekend. Calhoun is the regular Women’s Basketball color commentator. WPPJ will be broadcasting 51 total basketball games all of which can be heard on WPPJ. Also, look for pre-game analysis from Frketic the day of the game giving you his keys of the game and watch to watch for.
