As I headed to bed last night after watching the thrilling Pitt/WVU basketball game a tear was brought to my eye when I walked in my room and country song was playing on B94. It was then followed by a dance song, AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck”, and the Steelers “Here We Go” song. Hearing made the realization sink in the B94 was officially gone again.
If you recall last month CBS announced that B94 was going to be replaced by The Fan. The Fan is CBS ‘s attempt to take down the “evil empire” of ESPN Radio. CBS’s big ploy with The Fan is that its all local sports talk programming compared to ESPN who combines local sports talk shows with national syndicate shows. It could work or it could fail miserably because dont forget they are going toe-to-toe with Mickey Mouse. Its all going be how the personalities translate to the local listeners. But they have a bunch of hosts that Pittsburghers should be familiar with so that should go in CBS’s favor. If you’re interested here’s the line-up at The Fan.
As for those like myself who are looking a new station to listen to. Well, there’s always Kiss since now they pretty much have a stranglehold on the Top 40 and Urban music in this market. There is Star and Q 92.9 who have combined Top 40 with their soft rock music mix. You’re really going to like those stations if you like The Black Eye Peas and Taylor Swift. Or like me you can always turn to your iTunes collection. In closing I would just like to say B94 we will never forget you.
