N8 Bit Radio: Grab Your Controller & Rev Up Your Amp in ‘Meteor’

This article is from N8BitRadio.com. Visit the website to Rock Out. Freak Out. Geek Out.

Talk out rocking our, freaking out, and geeking out. It looks as if Ratchet & Clank and Brutal Legend are about to make a love child.

Get ready to arm yourself with an axe-canon. No, we’re not talking about a Monster Hunter esque crimson steel blade with firepower; we’re talking about a bad ass guitar that can pack some bullets.

(By the way, the term “axe cannon” is not one the developers have claimed — I totally made up the term “axe-cannon,”  but I think it sounds quite bad ass.)

Meteör, “a musical survival party game,” hits development and releases a prototype as a student project for the Games Academy of Berlin. The students are using the Unreal Engine, which powers f*cking awesome games (not just “awesome games” – “f*cking awesome games) like Borderlands, Mass Effect,  and Batman: Arkham City.

In essence, Meteör is a third person shooter, where you’ll load up a six string artillery with lethal ammunition; then brace yourself for some heavy guitar riffs as well as face paced shooting action as you explore bizarre exotic planet landscapes in search of mechanical parts to fix your wrecked spaceship.

That’s right, you’re a alien blasting musician in outer space.

Bizarre? Slightly. Pure Conquest? For sure.

Of course, guitars won’t be the only weapon to choose from. As a matter of fact, judging by the cover art, it looks like there will be at least four different classes, or band members, to choose from, each with their own unique instrument/weapon.

Players will be able to level up the band members and create “an ever-changing blend of sounds and unique tracks.” Essentially, the soundtrack will become more epic as you progress throughout the game.

Combat includes a sort of rage mode, in which the player gains a power up like an infernal wall, while performing an instrumental solo that actually plays as part of the music track.

Leveling up different characters, earning a score for shooting up some baddies, and altering the soundtrack when making progress and using power ups is definitely a recipe for an additive title.

Check out some of the latest in-game footage:
